	modified: Night Club Continues at SNC Join Julie Hein as she delves into week #2 of Night Club. Last week’s beginner dancers practiced a Traveling Basic that gets the dance really moving; they “oozed” their way to Outside Turns and Promenades. Intermediate leaders changed direction twice while the followers did arm lines that begin from center and moved outward. We hear that she (and Don Leynes) have a Tango look to this week’s lesson. Why don’t you join the group and find out for yourself?
	“Your Modus Operandi Revealed” Is Modus Operandi the latest hot move in the dance world? Is it something you’ll get arrested for if you reveal it in public? Neither. Instructor, Jill Popovich, promises to teach you how to move so all of your dances improve. You will dance better, move better, look better, lead better, follow better, interpret the music better, and so much more. Come reveal your Modus Operandi at the June 20 dance.

new: DVD of Wdnesday Lessons Available to All The SNC Board voted at its April meeting to make DVD’s of the Wednesday lessons (Friday lesson at dance optional) available to all, on a sliding scale. Happily, even if you couldn’t make it to each lesson, you can still buy the DVD. The details are below. new: Leaders or Followers: Who is Smarter? In social dancing, the followers automatically benefit by making hundreds of split-second decisions as to what to do next.  In reality, women don't "follow"; they interpret the signals their partners are giving them, and this requires intelligence and decision-making, which is active, not passive.  Dancing with different partners requires adjusting to each and being aware of more variables.  Leaders also engage in split-second decision-making if they:  (1) Really notice their partner and what works best for her. (2)  Constantly adapt their dancing to focus on what moves are successful and avoiding those that aren’t. (3) Don't lead the same old patterns the same way each time. (4)  Challenge themselves to try new things.  (5) Make more decisions more often.  Thanks to Robert Powers of Stanford University’s Dance Faculty

First SNC Food Drive June 20: Friday. Swing’n’Country is having its first Food Drive, in support of the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry. For each item of food you bring to the June 20 dance, you will receive $1.00 off admission to the dance. There is no limit to the amount of food you can bring, but there is a maximum of six items per person that can be used towards the cost of the dance. More details will be provided as the date draws closer.
new: Wanted: Parade Marchers! July 4: Friday. Swing’n’Country is marching in its first parade on Independence Day! Helping the Village of Oakbrook Terrace celebrate its 50^th anniversary, dancers will gather at 11 a.m. for the one-mile parade route. SNC will provide the music; you’re invited to provide the dancing! Free picnic for marchers! Contact Tina Reitz for details or to volunteer.
July 18: Friday. Swing’n’Country’s “It’s Too Darned Hot To Have A Picnic” Pizza Party. We’re moving our “picnic” indoors! Join your friends at the Centre at North Park for pizza, games and mid-summer frivolity. Oh yeah. And dancing!

June 28: Saturday. Brian Wong, editor of Chicago Dance News, hosts a Double Dance at Ballroom City, 207 Villa Avenue, Villa Park, Illinois 60181. Brian has figured out how to put on a fantastic mix of Country, Ballroom and Swing and provides a really cool pre-printed play list. Give it a try. Double Dance is held the last Saturday of each month. Note: We hear one of the Happenings Editors fell in love with the Tango at the last dance! (map)

June 12 – 14: Brickyard Boogie 2008. Ramada Inn. Indianapolis, Indiana. Event Director: Michael Lamb. This event is a no competition, strictly social dancing weekend. Although West Coast Swing will be the primary focus, there will be a sprinkling of Bop/Boogie, East Coast, Hustle, Night Club, Cha Cha, Salsa, Waltz, and Two Step. June 13 – 15: Orange Blossom Dance Festival. Marriott Orlando Airport. Orlando, Florida. Event Directors: Shawn Swaithes and Donna Bonham-Steinfeld. This UCWDC sanctioned event was voted “2007 Favorite North American Event”. Sunday night will wrap up with an excursion to Disney's Pleasure Island Adult Park.
